Born 1988 in Xuzhou, China.
Currently lives and works in Toronto, Canada.
Caroline Ji is a self-taught artist with a previous background in engineering. After a brief time in the corporate world of semiconductors, she decided that life was too short and took the leap of faith to painting. She first picked up oil painting in 2014 and has been practicing as a full-time professional artist since 2015.
Caroline's work takes root from memories and life experiences, coupled with a hazy understanding of identity. She works in a fairly classical approach using dramatic lighting to instill a sense of mystery and ambiguity in her subjects. Portraiture and floral are currently her dominating motifs as they allow for personal and intimate introspection. She is also fascinated by colour and the feelings they evoke in their limitless possibilities, and tries to explore different colour palettes in each painting.
Caroline received her BASc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 2012. Her paintings are collected in private collections across Canada, USA, Germany, and Brazil. She has exhibited in Toronto and Oakville, Canada.
